Violence, People, and Games … the PS3 Saga

As a result violence broke out all over the country. If you didn’t know any better you would think it was the great race wars of the 60’s. People were shot, people were stabbed, fights broke out, and there were robberies. Police were outmanned as they were involved in breaking up riots everywhere.

All this happened simply because the number of PlayStation3 game systems delivered to stores was nowhere near what needed to be shipped. Way too many anxious excited customers and not nearly enough product.

It is a very weird thing to see people, grown adults, become quite irrational over a game console. As the Sony PS3 release date came closer and closer, avid gamers began to set up camp outside of stores as they awaited the PS3 arrival. People hoped against the odds that they would be one of the fortunate ones.

In an effort to solve the shortage dilemma, one store placed ten chairs outside the store for the fifty-plus PS3 fans waiting outside. The store told them that whoever got to the chairs first would receive the PS3 game consoles. This turned out to be a huge mistake that resulted in many injuries with one person actually having to go to the hospital. As you can imagine, such a stunt prompted many fights.

There were also reports of many such PS3 campers being robbed at gunpoint and several stores were broken into the night before the PS3 release date. There were several cases where people had waited in line for up to two days only to be robbed of their money before they could purchase the PS3.

One consumer made an interesting, but obvious, observation when he stated that most of the violence problems were being caused by those at the back of the long lines. Hmmm go figure. Click Here For More Articles About: Video Games!
