Preordering the PS3 … a scam?
include("http://www.videogamz.com/ssi/rightcolumn.txt"); ?>
Well the release of the Sony PlayStation 3 game console has come and gone, and it safe to say that there were a lot of disappointed people. There were many who preordered the Sony PS3 and did not get it. This was due to the fact that Sony only made available a limited number of games consoles to the multiple store outlets that ordered them.
The shortage was so severe that the managers at most retail stores were asking their employees (many of whom preordered the PS3) to wait until the next batch of consoles arrived. The store managers informed everyone that there would be in plenty of PS3’s in time for Christmas.
Many people who preordered were not happy because the whole process of preordering the Sony Play Station 3 consoles was meant to prevent the rush of people pushing and shoving each in an attempt to grab ‘their’ PS3. The preordering process was also designed to hopefully spur sales of PS3 merchandise. This too also failed as many who prepaid for their new PS3 found out that it was not going to be delivered to them as promised. Hundreds of PS3 customers were turned away with promises of getting their PS3’s before Christmas.
Many who failed to receive their PS3 demanded to have their money returned. But retailers are saying ‘no, we can’t do that” so they will just have to wait until the next batch is delivered. Many retailers promised to throw in something extra, but most customers were not happy with this gesture.
Many customers wisely thought that perhaps Sony made supplies of the PS3 limited in order to create a huge demand for the PS3 console. It has been noted that Sony will lose money on each console sold for the first two years, which means they will need to make up for that will game sales. So the more consoles you sale the more games you sale. Hence the effort to sell more consoles. After all, Sony needs to keep the public excited about the PS3 in order to drive sales.
