Seizing the moment: PS3's, eBay, & Greed!

One has to wonder …

Which was the biggest surprise: the amazing demand and shortage of the Sony PlayStation3 game console after it was released, or how fast the PS3’s popped up on eBay for outrageous prices.

In fact, there were so many PS3’s for sale on Ebay that it became very evident many PS3 customers had purchased their unit solely for the purpose of reselling it on eBay. The eBay ‘police’ actually made up news rules just to cover the sale of PS3’s such as demanding proof of ownership, must have ninety-eight percent positive feedback rating, and proving ownership of the PS3 by showing the preorder receipt. Ebay even went a step further and prohibited the PS3’s to be sold with a buy it now sale as well as a one day sale. They also dictated that the PS3 could only be paid for through Paypal (convenient since eBay now owns Paypal and receives the Paypal fees that are incurred with each sale. Hmmm!)

Despite eBay’s newly created restrictions, the very next morning after the Sony PlayStation 3 game system was released there were over three thousand PS3’s already listed. Due to the huge demand for the PS3, many people who bought the PS3 unit for $600 were able to sell it for several thousand dollars! Many PS3 owners were able to reap in massive profits … in fact, several PS3’s sold for over five thousand dollars on eBay!

Nearly two days after the PlayStation3 was released, there were nearly twenty-nine thousand PS3’s listed on eBay which was right at seven percent of those sold in the USA first batch release. Of course this crazy buying frenzy has slowed down after Sony shipped its second batch of PS3’s. Sony has claimed they shipped out over a million units before Christmas so the prices should drop drastically as spring approaches. Click Here For More Articles About: Video Games!
