PS3 Review: Untold Legends Dark Kingdom
include("http://www.videogamz.com/ssi/rightcolumn.txt"); ?>
When "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" was released, it was expected to get lots of attention and praise. But that hasn’t happened. Although "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" does have some a few nice qualities, many believe that the game could have been much, much better with just a little more developing effort.
"Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" begins an adventure through the eyes of one of three different characters. The three characters are the warrior, the mage, and the scout. The three characters may appear totally different on the outside, but they have the same basic offensive and defensive abilities. Each gets basic strong and fast attacks, as well as their own special powers/spells. The basic melee attacks will be used to dispatch most enemies in the game, while the spells will be used in more chaotic situations. Four character spells may also be equipped and used at any time, but in order to use other powers/spell you need to switch them with your current ones.
The overall storyline of "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" has been well developed and most gamers agree that it is a pretty intense story. Dureth, which is your Kingdom, is being destroyed by your very own king. You have been gone for a while, and recently heard of the corruption in the kingdom. After returning home, you find out that your king has been corrupted by an evil source. The kingdom's loyal citizens are being tortured by demonic forces every day.
So begins your quest to put an end to the corruption. You begin by trying to find out who has corrupted King Halaskar, what is making his corruption so amazingly strong, and then you must destroy the source of the corruption and save the kingdom of Dureth.
"Untold Legends" takes advantage of the "experience points" system which basically means that every time you defeat an enemy you will be granted a certain number of experience points. If you accumulating enough experience points, you will gain a level and be able to increase some of your characters attributes. These attributes include magic power, melee defense, health, mana, attack power, spell power, and others.
There is armor and other gear in "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom", but unfortunately it won’t make your character look any different at all. This doesn’t bother some gamers, but most gamers expect the character to look different after picking up new armor.
Another problem with "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" is that your character only gets one basic weapon from the beginning of the game until the end. However, that weapon can be upgraded during the gameplay using an assortment of different power gems.
"Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" is your basic hack and slash RPG in which you will do a whole lot of killing your enemies, and not much thinking. Your characters attacks can be arranged together for a nice set of high damaging combos. Add one of your powerful spells, and you can take out a whole area filled with enemies in just a few seconds. The bad thing about combat in "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" is that it can get quite dull because it feels like your doing the same thing again and again.
The graphics and overall look of "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" are a bit of a downer when you consider the abilities of the PlayStaion3 game console. Not that the graphics are bad … they just lack the pizzazz that most Playstation 3 games have. The details of the characters and the enemies are fairly good. The sound effects and music are pretty entertaining, but they can get rather repetitive. To sum it up, the graphics and sound of "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" have more of a PS2 feel then a PS3.
While "Untold Legends: Dark Kingdom" has not been that impressive, it still is a pretty fun game to play. In terms of the Playstation 3 hardware it may have failed. But it is still an entertaining RPG and it should give you a few hours of PS3 fun.
