PS3 Review: "Resistance: Fall of Man" Multiplayer Mayhem

As every gamer knows, a game can only last so long before it starts to get boring. Yeah, you can beat a game on all the difficulty levels, but that still does not change the fact that you will get bored eventually. Its not really the games fault, because the game was fun at first. It’s just that you have conquered the game and there’s nothing else to do with it. Or is there?

Well, for some games there is another option that can keep you from getting bored. That choice is the multiplayer option, or the online multiplayer option. There are many games being released currently with online capability. Nowadays if a game does not have any online capabilities, gamers will just move on to something else.

"Resistance: Fall of Man" for the new Sony PlayStation3 is one of those great online multiplayer games. If you have a PS3 then you will not want to miss out on the massive carnage that ensues during an online match.

As far the game, basically its kill or be killed. A nice option of online play is that you can choose between being a human soldier or a Chimeran hybrid. Both races have pros and cons … you just have to decide which advantages are more useful.

The Chimeran hybrid can enter into what’s known as a "berserker" or "rage". This mode will increase its damage, speed, and ability to withstand enemy fire. The Chimeran hybrid can also see through walls when in this "rage" mode. The bad part about hybrids is that they are big bulky creatures that are bigger targets that the enemy can hit easily. Another big disadvantage is the loss of radar, which can be your best friend in dangerous battle situations. The human soldiers aren't anything extra special. They are just regular soldiers with a hint of toughness. They can sprint from cover to cover very quickly and they have radar that reveals where both the enemy is and where the allies are.

Most players that are familiar with online first person shooters will already know what types of matches will be available in "Resistance: Fall of Man". Those matches are: Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Capture-the-Flag, as well as a few other variations of common FPS matches. Gamers will be able to participate in small to medium sized battles via their broadband internet connection. Smaller matches will contain about 8 players, while the slightly larger ones will contain about 16. However, this game offers a player the chance to battle with up to 39 other players. In case you lost count, that’s a total of 40 players in a single online match!

There are gamers who believe that 40 players in one match is too good to be true because the lag would ruin the matches. But, that is simply not the case. It is true that every game, regardless of size, will have its share of lag issues from time to time, but these 40 person matches have much less lag then you would expect. Of course, not all the players will operating from the same speed internet … so the gaming results may vary from match to match.
