Now this is how to make a statement with the Sony PS3!

The scene was one of the weirdest in mankind history. A relatively normal looking man had stood in line for hours upon hours. Why you ask?
So that he could purchase a Sony PlayStation 3. Nothing abnormal there ... in fact he was joined by hundreds of other fanatic Sony PS3 fans all who were anxious to get their hands on the PS3.
As the lines grew longer and longer, the anticipation grew as people simply couldn’t wait to get their hands on Sony’s latest ‘greatest’ gaming console. News of the release of the Sony PlayStation 3 had been headlines in the gaming industry for weeks … and finally the date was here!
So at last the first batch of PS3 arrived in stores across the USA. Many people who purchased a PS3 from the first batch did so for one reason: to resale at a huge profit on eBay. Many others bought simply to take it home with them to play games with.
But unfortunately many of those standing inline came away empty handed. Demand had exceeded the PS3 availability, and many of those who had stood in line for hours walked home empty handed and rather unhappy.
Which brings us back to the man in this story. This strange man, who had waited in line for hours, was one of the lucky ones who were able to acquire the PlayStation3. But what happened next was unthinkable:
The man walked out of the store, placed his newly purchased $600 PS3 on the sidewalk, and proceeded to smash it into hundreds of itty bitty pieces with a sledgehammer!
This act of strangeness was so weird that many international news agencies carried the story. Apparently this man had destroyed his PS3 for no other reason then he desired to be an iconoclast and to simply make a statement.
Yes, it was a very silly statement and a very expensive statement … not to mention a terrible waste of a brand new Sony PS3! However it did provide Sony with free publicity for the PlayStation 3.
