Did you give the Sony PlayStation 3 as a Christmas present?

As I am sure most teenagers will agree with me, there is no better Christmas gift then the Sony PlayStation 3. Well ... that maybe a slight stretch of the imagination as world peace and ending world hunger would certainly be a better gift. But since world peace and ending hunger are simply not very realistic, then it would probably be easier to give the PS3 as a Christmas present.

But then again, perhaps ending world hunger and ending all war in the world might actually be easier to accomplish than acquiring a PS3 to give as a Christmas present! I say this because when Sony released the PS3 it only released a small number of the game consoles in the first release batch. There were many people wanting the PlayStation 3 console, but only a few were fortunate enough to get one.

Regardless of how much money a person was willing to pay, there simply were not enough game PS3 console units available to meet the incredible demand! So, many people thought that they would get around this problem by preordering the PS3.

So did preordering the Sony PlayStation 3 guarantee that they would get it on time?

No, unfortunately it did not. When someone decided to preorder a PS3, they thought they were eliminating the scarcity issue. They thought they would be guaranteed a PS3 … but Sony sold more then they were able to deliver in the first batch. Many of those who preordered did not receive their unit until the second batch of PS3’s came out.

On the bright side, if you were not able to get your hands on a “first batch” PS3 then you certainly were able to get one several weeks later when batch two was released. Most people were able to acquire a PS3 by the end of the year as most game stores were well stocked.
